I'm excited to try this place.

TXOKie..there are a lot of places on the south side that have the tacos you are describing. Try Tacos San Pedro (might qualify for shady) but it's great. The pork al pastor tacos are great.

I guess you could head over to big truck tacos it's fun but over priced and a little trendy. (They sell breakfast too)

Alfredo's has great homemade flour tortillas and good green salsa.

Tim--thanks for your input.I'm glad I stumbled unto this site because it is hard to find a good mexican restaurant here in Okc.Don't get me wrong,my wife & I love it here in Oklahoma but we do miss the great tasting food from San Antonio but then every city does have it's own unique flavor.Oklahoma does have some great bar-be-que places but fall's kinda short in the Mexican restaurant places although they are improving since we got here.We once went to a mexican restaurant here ,I got all excited because I saw that they had soft beef tacos.Much to my dissatisfaction when I got my plate it really turned me off & depressed me.What I got was beef in a flour tortilla with lettuce & tomatoe inside the tortilla(UGH).A real soft beef taco has picadillo(ground beef). It is made with a CORN tortilla which is softened in hot oil for about 2 seconds then you place the beef inside the tortilla & roll it up, the lettuce & tomatoe goes on top of the hot soft tortilla(never inside of the tortilla(bad).I still can't find any breakfast tacos that open early in the morning for breakfast. We used to have taco runs in San Antonio at our work places but we had taco places on each corner(with that much competition), the places had to start off with---fresh homemade tortillas & great tasting food to go inside(never put lettuce & tomatoe insde of the tortilla). If the restaurant doesn't have fresh home-made tortillas they don't survive in SA.Hopefully someone will start the ball rolling by starting a taco place that sell's true breakfast tacos.

TxOkie, that is a great point. I wish more places made their own tortillas, both flour and corn. I agree that would make Casa Perico much better.

My wife & I have been to Casa Perico several time's. Their food & service are good but being from San Antonio (where the home-made flour tortilla makes a restaurant)it fall's a little short from being a great restaurant. We're used to getting fresh home-made tortilla's with every dish.Tortilla's help you scoop up your food & really make's a difference.Their food is really good but I recommend that they have fresh made flour tortilla's.

Ate here last Sunday and some of the regular zing was missing. The salsa, queso and fajitas all seemed really bland, and I found myself salting everything looking for some flavor. This is not normally the case - wonder if they have a new cook?

I'm glad to see Casa Perico get the respect it deserves! We have been eating there since it first opened and have never been disappointed. If you like the spicy stuff, their habenero (sp?) salsa is the best I've had. Me Gusta!

We eat there a lot--since it is nearby. Every dish is great and they make special things we like (Cactus). One problem: big groups. We went there with a gracious uncle (every family should have one) who paid for our group (one less than the "gratuity" number). Waiter asked me on the way out if the food was unacceptable because my uncle did not leave a tip. Not wanting to embarrass my uncle, I left a (big) tip. Was back a month later and noticed the same thing happened to another group. Got curious, called my uncle--he had left a (big) tip on his card. Grrrr. I'm sure its just a bad egg because the guys aren't there anymore. We still get great food and service there. Lesson learned for me.

Agree that their Carne Asada is absolutely wonderful! Also, this is one of the few places where I have to get the sopapilla for dessert, even though I'm stuffed. It's just too good to pass up.

Pericos is a really great find. One of the best around and trumps Ted's and the like anyday. Its a Mexican restaurant where even Mexicans dine.

Casa Perico has long been my fave spot for Mexican. I agree with the comments on the Carne Asada. I eat it fajita style, & it's wonderful -- plus I love that it's served with fresh avocado slices. My other favorite is their Huevos Rancheros, which is served with an absolutely delicious side dish of Puerco Verde. Wonderful place!

Carne asada and do it up the same way you would a fajita and I'd be surprised if you go back to the fajitas. Their carne asada is deadly.
