I went there today after reading about the place on this site, and was pretty interested in trying it out. Maybe I'm obtuse and missing the point, but the stuff that my friends and I tried was really heavy. They were out of the beef and veggie as well as the chicken and veggie pies but were unclear as to whether that was for the day or forever, so I had the BBQ pie, my friends had the Broccoli and Chicken and the Tex-Mex pies respectively and all of us found them to be overly heavy and not worth the price.

The lady behind the counter got a phone call as we started ordering, and took the call before allowing us to finish ordering, which I felt was somewhat lacking in customer service. I’ve been to quite a few places mentioned on this site and many of those independently discovered, but of all of them I have to say this is the biggest disappointment that I’ve experienced.

There is a fried pie place out on I-35 now where Papa's Lil Italy was for years. I haven't been there yet but I've been to both of Fultons locations and enjoy them both.

And what's wrong with Coit's??? I can eat a Maxi Steak Biscuit w/Cheese for breakfast and not have to eat the rest of the day..... Or maybe that's what's wrong with Coit's. That biscuit hits and sticks there for hours.

The FRIED PIE Shoppe in Davis, OK at Exit 51 on I-35 has become my favorite pit stop when I'm traveling to/from Kansas. Just be sure to be there by 7 PM or you'll miss out on all those delicious fried pies! Apricot is my favorite, but I haven't sampled all the flavors yet. They are cheaper by the dozen, but since I always share with family/friends, they don't last very long! I ate the last one this morning and I'm starting to have withdrawal symptoms. I found this link when I googled the name to find their other locations. Denison is the closest to me. Sounds like a nice Saturday drive!

BTW,Fulton's fried pies and Nancy's fired pies are the same. Her name is Nancy Fulton, and she started the original fried pies in Davis, OK. They just opened a new location in Chickasha,OK this month.

@Isaac, that's Pioneer pies. It's actually east of Rockwell I think. I'm not sure if it's still open. I haven't been there in a long, long time. Pioneer pies is very different from a fried pie place, though. It's more traditional country cooking with a selection of standard dessert pies that aren't fried.

I wonder if Nancy's is the fried pie place in Ardmore? If so, I didn't care for them. I guess I was spoiled by my old baby sitter in Kentucky...her fried apple pies were fab. I drive right by Fulton's on the way to work. I will give them a try.

@CGHill, excellent work. I do love a good Haiku.

@nat, I just noticed all of the hand-made fried pie signage on the interstate on the way to Texas and back last weekend. Thanks for the recommendation, I will have to try and stop next time.

Next time you are driving south down I-35, stop at exit 51 and visit Nancy's fried pies. Pretty much the exact same menu, but for some reason I like their pastry dough better. My husband actually had 200 of their chocolate fried pies as his grooms "cake" at our wedding reception! They were a huge hit.

Unless I'm badly mistaken, peanut oil is not a guaranteed danger, depending on how refined it is. Chick-Fil-A, for example, uses highly refined peanut oil, which poses really no threat to those allergic to peanuts.
