I have to disagree with your comments on Shiki. The fresh doesn't seem as fresh to me (as counterparts Tokyo and Okura). And I had a friend literally get tapeworm after a visit there. That alone deters me from ever going back. And as I said, I'd rather go to Tokyo or Okura--fish is fresher.

Shiki is one of those places that does NOT make their miso soup from a mix. They actually have people someone "slaving away in the kitchen drying sardines and mushrooms, making a homemade miso paste, and hand-cutting little bits of tofu". haha. Well, maybe not the "slaving" part.

oh my gosh! i am so glad that you guys are writing reviews about skiki! this is my ultimate favorite sushi place!!!! and in detail it really is affordable and i get 2 rolls every time! The waitors and waitresses really are as awesome as everyone has said so far. and not only are they respectable if you have kids they are respectable to the couples that come in there too! my boyfriend and i go in there quite often because i have an amazing obsession with sushi and everytime they ask the both of us how we are doing and have never angered us for any reason whatsoever. their sushi in detail is absolutely the BEST i have ever tried and i dont care about all these other places i am hearing about on here because i will never eat at other sushi places because i am clearly dedicated to this place. DO try their "spicy cowboy roll" and do have their very basic and wonderful "california burning" they are both cooked sushi so if you are afraid of the raw fish...then you need to try these two! you will definitely be amazing with "spicy cowboy" please DO TRY!!! and i really need sushi right now because all this writing about it and reading about it is making me crave it so badly!!! hahaha! anyways... thank you for your time to read what i had to say because i really hope you will give shiki a try. it is amazing and you will love it.

Three years ago my fiancee and I ate at Shiki on one of our first dates. We have been consistently pleased with both the cuisine as well as the service each time we have visited. Last night marked our fourth visit - and our two-year old son's first visit. The staff's accomodating attitude made all the difference. When we realized that the first high chair the server brought us was missing the safety belt (a necessity for our active child) she had no problem finding us another that did have a fastening belt. As she served our meal, she had the foresight to place the dishes AWAY from our son - well out of his reach - without having been asked to do so. I was impressed.

For those of us who have small children and still want to enjoy dining out, kid-conscious waitstaff make it possible to do so.

The sushi combos are creative, fun, and most deliver that elusive quality of umami.

I enjoy their value as well. You can get a couple rolls for lunch and not break the bank. I have never tried their hibachi but I have seen their chefs at work and they put on a show. But why would you want to cut up a nice piece of steak like that?

I like going to Shiki for a change of scenery when I don't feel like driving to Tokyo. I LOVE their Shiki roll. I never actually payed attention to the prices, but now that you mention it, it is a good value.

We have been to Okura, Sushi Neko, and Fuji in Edmond. All are very good, but we decided to try Shiki based on Andrew's suggestion. EXCELLENT! Service was very good. I'm a picky Sushi eater, and usually there is something that we order that I like but certainly was not my favorite. Everything we ordered last night was so good that I couldn't decide which I liked the best. Our waiter suggested the May Ave. Roll and although it's not what I normally would go for we both thought it was incredible. Prices were good also. We will definitely be going back! Thanks for the suggestion Andrew.

Thank you for the review. I'm a huge sushi fan, but I've never tried Shiki. I will definitely give them a try now.

I agree with you on the prices at sushi restaurants. If my friends weren't so set on Sushi Neko, I would avoid it for the bank-breaking prices. I have found both Tokyo Sushi House in OKC and Fuji in Edmond have pretty reasonable prices.
