The Wedge Pizzeria: organic, inventive and delicious

Loading ...The Wedge Pizzeria is located at 4709 N. Western in Oklahoma City (map). Hours are Mon-Fri 11am-3pm and 5-10pm (11pm on Fridays). Saturdays, it’s 12-11pm and Sundays from 5-10pm. Call them at 405.602.3477.
Not to tie the excellent Wedge Pizzeria to that mediocre pantry staple, Wolf Brand Chili, but stranger, how long’s it been since you had figs on your pizza? Well, that’s just too long.
The Wedge could easily be described as “upscale” pizza, but not because of outrageous prices (though if you’re looking for cheap eats, look elsewhere), but because of outrageous quality and innovation.
The wife and I lunched here recently and found favorites all over the menu. For the appetizer, we tried the Anti-Pasto platter. This could have been a meal by itself for $9, with marinated seasonal vegetables (ours had eggplant, locally grown squash, sweet peppers, Sungold cherry tomatoes and beets) plus cheese, German potato salad and two slices of spicy Capicola ham. The flavors, other the peppers and the sharp blue cheese, were subtle. It isn’t for everyone, but as a lover of fresh, local produce, I recommend it.
Also good is the Wedge Trio, which is a plate of their Italian flatbread served with olive tapenade, roasted red pepper hummus and marinated artichoke hearts. At $8, it’s enough to split with four or five people.
We each had a salad (all are $6) and were mostly delighted. She had the marinated mozzarella salad, which came with sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts and arugula. I stole a few bites and was pleased, though I wish the cheese had a little more flavor.
One bit of flavor she didn’t want was a tiny bug that she spied. Before she could catch it, it darted deeper into the salad. Needless to say, the salad was replaced. And I can honestly forgive the bug, since I know they were using local, pesticide-free, organic arugula. The man in me says, “Aw, heck, it’s just extra protein.” The reviewer, however, is glad they were quick to replace the salad with a bug-free version.
My salad had fresh spinach with pears, toasted walnuts and a dijon-balsamic vinaigrette. That dressing (which you can buy by the pint for $8) was amazing. The pears were crisp and crunchy and the walnuts were rich. I’m not usually a fan of fruit in my salad, but this was just a well put together production.
The main attraction, of course, is the pizza and the selection at the Wedge is pretty stout. There’s the normal “build your own” section, though with a few oddities for your choosing including capers, prosciutto, pancetta, goat cheese, figs, pears, etc. But the specialty pizzas really surprised me. It’s rare I find specialties that are so … special.
We tried the Truffle Shuffle ($15) with roasted chicken, truffle oil, sage, spinach and crimini mushrooms. I could have eaten it all day long. The flavors were well-balanced and delightful. This was certainly more than the sum of its parts, though I’ll admit, I was a bit let down with the crust. The Wedge brick-fires all their pizzas, but the oil and ingredients rendered the usually tender crust a bit flimsy. But as knife-and-fork pizza goes, the taste is out of this world.
I also had a slice of the Prosciutto E Formaggi ($14) which is covered in prosciutto, arugula and figs. It’s an odd taste, but not a bad one. The figs aren’t overly sweet. They are complimented with the salty meat and the lightly bitter arugula.
A word of warning — if you get anything with arugula, get it in the summer. I was disappointed in the winter with the arugula, which was harsh and bitter. Manager Elena Farrar told me she begs their local provider, who grows the stuff in El Reno, to find a way to produce it year-round, because the quality drops off when they get it elsewhere.
For those of you who might end up at The Wedge, but would like something a little less experimental, I recommend the American Pie. It comes topped with marinara sauce, fresh meatballs and onions. My wife is also a big fan of The Vedge. All vegetarians take note — this is your dish. Garlic, red bell peppers, artichokes, mushrooms, pine nuts and ricotta make this a favorite.
If you skip appetizers and salads, one pizza is probably big enough for two people. I suggest you go with friends, try a couple of different pies and maybe split an appetizer. It’s not cheap, but you’re not getting cheap food, either.

This is a favorite place of mine. We took some family and friends here and we had a blast. With so many of us, we ordered three different pizzas and they were all amazing. My favorite thing about this place is a small thing that they did for my kids. They brought out raw pizza dough for the boys to play with while we waited for our order to come out. They loved it!

We also LOVE The Wedge. I find the prices not too bad when you get one appetizer and two pizzas, you can get FULL from just that. Add some beer and the price does go up pretty good though. Seriously though, an app at $8.00 and two $11.00 Pizzas for four people! Are you kidding me, about $10 a person with tax and tip.
My four year old boy has a crush on one of the waitresses, the one with a full sleeve of tattoos. She brought out the dough for him too, he rolled it out and made his own breadsticks for his dinner (they fired it up for him). He now wants the same tatts on his arms.
We hit up this place two times a week for about two months. FRESH and a cool atmosphere. I love Western Ave.

More big fans of the Wedge. Local, high quality, never a disappointment. Great date night spot. Cozy, but lively and usually busy, even in “off” times of the day.

Only been here once a while back, but did enjoy it. I look forward to going back soon.
I loved their outdoor seating area. They’ve put a lot of effort into making that nice which I appreciate. It seems that it’s hard to find good outdoor dining spots in OKC.

Haven’t been, but looking forward to the new Wedge being put together in Deep Deuce. Its very near my office, so should get some of my business if it lives up to expectations.

I love The Wedge. This summer I have been going in at lunch and asking for a custom salad. It is a Caprese Salad with tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, pinenuts, oil and vinegar, and onions. Sometimes John throws on a few onions or some fennel.
My only wish is that they had takeout.

I have only lived in Oklahoma City for 5 months but I have gone to The Wedge at least ten times. As my date once remarked “I judge pizza places by their Margherita pizza” and this place doesn’t let down. Fresh basil, fresh slice tomato and the real mozzerala (the kind that has to be sliced from balls). Get the oil and vinegar to increase the tastiness of that crust. The Wedge Trio is perfect for the solo lunch. Decent beer selection, could be better, but thats my only complaint.

Love love love this place. The Vedge is an awesome pizza – my wife and I will swap the mushrooms for Italian sausage, and it is amazing.

Guess what? The Wedge also has free wifi. I called and asked and sure enough they do, so I came over tonight to do a little work and enjoyed a pizza that was half of the fig thing and half of the Italian Stallion. Both very interesting and good. Just a little pricey for a party of one at $15 + tip.

The Wedge is good I have to agree but you need to try Sauced in Paseo. They have the best pizza in the state!

Reading your review of The Wedge made me feel I ought to visit Oklahoma just to taste the pizza there! It was followed up by a lot of good comments so I guess The Wedge is pretty much a local favorite. I’ll definitely give it a visit when I’m in Oklahoma. I often travel and am looking out for good places to eat in different cities. I usually get my tips from http://www.foodcritics.com and since I visit so many places, I like to keep a track and so post reviews on various restaurants I’ve eaten at. Check it out. Maybe you’d like to add The Wedge to the list!

We went to the Wedge with very high expectations, and they were met on every front! We loved the flatbread starter with the different dips – and we LOVED the Italian Stallion! This is a must try!

Finally tried out the one on Western. Very good pizza and spinach salad. Only hope that the new location in Deep Deuce has a lunch menu or lunch sized pizzas, as $13-$15 per pizza plus tip is a bit over my lunch budget.

I was introduced to this restaurant by Sarah, a writer for this website. She seems to know all the trendy places. It was a girls night out and she suggested this place and man was it good. I had the pear, goat cheese and prosciutto appetizer along with the truffle shuffle pizza. Both dishes were phenominal! I look forward to going back soon.

The Wedge is really a great place to go for specialty pizzas. They have some unusual combination’s but they always turn out to be great. My only complaint is they need a larger place. They are also opening a new location downtown behind the new police station in bricktown. And get this…the building is wedge shaped!

I love The Wedge! When going with a couple friends I have found that an appetizer (my favorite is the prosciutto wrapped pears), a Wedge salad and a pizza is enough food and allows a chance to get a little of everything. The Wedge Trio is also a great starter. As far as the pizza goes, you cannot go wrong. Personally I prefer the Prosciutto E Formaggi (with basil instead of arugula) or the Margarita. Of course, you can’t forget the gelato. The mocha crunch is my favorite, but the dulce de leche is excellent as well.

At first, I was put off when I heard of this new place called The Wedge that served pizza but not by the slice (aka the wedge). But after trying it out, several times, I am very pleased.
As for appetizers, the prosciutto wrapped pears with goat cheese and balsamic vinegar have been perfect every time. The Wedge Sampler changes from season to season and really gives you a lot of bang for the buck.
The pizzas are phenomenal. Talking to the staff, I’ve heard they make everything there that they can… the sauces, the salad dressing, the mozzarella cheese and of course, the dough.
They also have a great selection of beer and I was finally able to try some beers from the Unibroue brewery (La Fin du Monde and Trois Pistole). Excellent suggestions by the wait staff.
The restaurant is kind of small so you might want to call ahead if you have large parties. I’m not sure if they take reservations but that would be a great idea if going out on a busy night like Fri/Sat night. I definitely recommend this place. It gets 5/5 stars in my book.

I loved it! The pizza was absolutely awesome – however my son who grew up on Little Caesars didn’t like it. My advise, keep the kids at home.

Finally, a good resturant w/ FRESH ingredients in OKC: feel like any major cities have a plethora of this type of fresh food experience. But not OKC. So happy to have found this place. The food was excellent: uncomplicated and good. Servie was 5*, but I’d even eat somewhere w/ bad service if they had good food.

Just FYI, the Deep Deuce location opens this Friday. Went to the soft opening yesterday, and it was fantastic. Plenty of very attentive staff, and the food was top notch.

This is my absolute favorite pizza place! The quality of the ingrediants is outstanding and I love being able to modify the standard items. My husband and I had lunch at the Western location yesterday – it was packed. They were really busy but everything was excellent. We split a Wedge salad – had them hold the olives. I also like the Spinich salad but substitute pine nuts for the walnuts – a little too spicy for me. We ordered the flatbread appetizer to take most of it home and eat later – we had some for lunch today (Yum!). My husband was introduced to his new favorite beer here a while back, Amstel Light. We really appreciate being able to order one pizza but have different things on each half. My husband loves a tradional pizza – marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, sausage, onions, mushrooms while I am a huge fan of a modified Napoli – toasted walnuts, asiago cheese, rosemary, pancetta, arugla but instead of the arugula I get pears (recommended by a waitress there). This way we are both happy and don’t have to order 2 whole pizzas. To finish off the meal yesterday, we had some raspberry sorbet – light & tart. I don’t think we have ever had a bad experience. Once they had a problem and had to re-do our pizza. Because it was late, they sent us a complimentary meatball appetizer. Great food and great service – the only place I want to go for pizza.

The Wedge serves up an excellent pie. All of the ingredients have always seemed very fresh, they have a great variety of topping options. I usually just ask my waiter/waitress for a recommendation when I want something new and amazing! Highly recommended.

Truffle Shuffle is great. If you have two people in your party, order one salad and one pizza. That’s more than plenty for two people.
The patio is an excellent place to hang out on a sunny day.

The Wedge makes my heart sing. Napoli pizza, some Peroni, and an antipasto plate is one of my favorite meals on this planet. The antipasto is always a surprise, which I love. My fave is when I get hot capicola, proscuitto, and blue cheese, with the sweet beets.

I endorse Bald Ryan’s comment (two up) and incorporate it in full.
We love the Truffle Shuffle. The spinach salad is also excellent, a careful combination of flavors with the spicy roasted walnuts.
Greg’s review is spot-on about the Prosciutto e Formaggi pizza (prosciutto, arugula, figs, etc.). When the arugula is in season it is a DELICIOUS pizza. The staff gave us the tip to dribble balsamic vinegar on it. Mmmm, fantastic. But sometimes I have gotten some really nasty, yellowed, sorry-looking arugula. Ruins the effect. They should make it a seasonal pizza and only offer it when they can offer nice arugula.
Overall their price structure is not cheap but not a rip-off. It’s worth it.

One more thing — I disagree about the Vedge (vegetarian) pizza. We have consistently found it bland and underwhelming. Not recommended.
A shame, since vegetarians could use more tasty options for dining out in OKC.

It’s not the kind of pizza I would want all the time and it’s a little pricey but if you want something different then The Wedge is the place to find it.
We also had the marinated mozzarella salad and it was very tasty.
I walked through the doors expecting The Wedge to be just another pizza joint. My expectations were way off. They are anything but just another pizza joint.

Did the Wedge thing both on Western and in Deep Deuce and walked away very satisfied. Got the Wedge Trio and it might be my favorite item, the red pepper hummus is amazing. We created our own pizza both times and add the trio and we were stuffed. Really a different twist on pizza and very enjoyable. If you order the tea, be prepared it is ginger tea, may not be what you expect.

Hit the Wedge for some pizza and was not disappointed. Still not sure I like the Ginger tea, but the Wedge Trio is just killer, maybe my favorite!! Great atmosphere, can get loud but great food.

LOVE this place. I have only been to the Downtown location but it is so good. The veggie pizza with pinenuts. Oh my goodness is it amazing!! And you can get half and half which is cool. You should really try it. YUM!
