Join us for Local Restaurant Appreciation Week in OKC!

One of the goals of EatAroundOKC is to support our local restaurant community. To that end, we have created “Local Restaurant Appreciation Week” to help raise awareness of and support the local restaurants of OKC. The event takes place August 9th through the 14th, 2010.
We need you to help us make this event a success. “How?” you ask. It’s easy, just follow these steps:
- Click here to visit the event page on Facebook.
- RSVP to the event using the buttons at the top (you’ll need to be logged into Facebook to do this).
- Then, invite your friends to support the event as well by clicking “Select guests to invite” under the event image at the upper left of the page.
- Finally, during the week of August 9th through the 14th, eat at local Oklahoma City restaurants at least three times and go out of your way to show your favorite restaurants some love (there are more ideas on how to show your appreciation on the event page).
That’s it! It’s a pretty simple event, but its power will be in rallying as many people as possible to be a part. So, please help us out. You can get more details, show your support, and invite your own friends on the event’s Facebook page.
Thanks again for your support of our website and of local Oklahoma City restaurants!
Update: we’ve created a special “Thank You Note” that you can print out and leave at the restaurants you visit during Local Restaurant Appreciation Week (along with a generous tip, of course!). We hope you’ll find it a useful way to spread the local restaurant love. Click here to get the thank you note (pdf).

I tend to not fuss with Facebook. The rest of the idea I can manage during the week.

No problem, Kevin. You don’t have to be on Facebook to appreciate restaurants! Let us know where you’re eating.

I ran out of room commenting on Facebook and lost it all – hope this works better! I eat out for lunch 6 days a week – the 5 days during the work week are always at local restaurants and Sat (with my husband) are about 90% local. This week so far I have eaten 3 times at Shirley’s Cafe/AKA The Harvey House. It’s in Broadway Executive Park – the University of Phoenix building. I don’t cook & lunch is my big meal of the day. I really like her lunch specials Mon – Thurs for $6 including tea or coffee. She makes the best meatloaf! This week I enjoyed her chicken rotel casserole and her delicious but light macaroni & cheese (ate it twice & taking some home for my freezer). She also makes the absolute best cakes in the world – her carrot cake is to die for! The red velvet isn’t far behind. Huge piece of cake for $1.75 – can’t beat that. Her tuna salad and chicken salad are both really good too.

This week I have also eaten at the First Edition Cafe at the downtown Library. They use herbed flatbread for both their paninis (my fave is the Avalon chicken) & pizzas (the Hobbit margarita). I really like that with their sandwiches and paninis they offer a choice of chips or a piece of fresh fruit (had a fresh peach – yum). My favorite thing is their freshly baked whole wheat chocolate chip cookies – sometimes with pistachios and sometimes walnuts. My absolute favorite was when they used white chocolate chips – my personal preference. It’s great to have good quality food at a reasonable price.

Friday I will probably get lunch at Crave in the lobby of Leadership Square. I truly do crave their turkey cranberry sandwich. I would never have come up with this myself but I love the honey maple turkey with light cream cheese, cranberry sauce, raisins and sunflower seeds on wheatberry bread. There are other bread choices and wraps too. I love this sandwich so much I haven’t tried any others. They make wonderful smoothies that are perfect this time of year – think I will go for the Mango Mania tomorrow.

Finally, I won’t make it this week but my most recent discovery is the Hot Spot Health Cafe at Iglesia Wellness & Fitness Center – on Western across from Legacy Cleaners. They have wonderful healthy food. I loved the spicy tuna wrap with blue corn chips and the coconut pecan chicken with quinoa, salad and sweet spicy apricot dipping sauce.

Debbie, thanks for all of the great recommendations. This all sounds great and you’ve mentioned several places I haven’t been yet. I’m going to have to check them out. Thanks again for your support of local restaurants!
