Fruiti Yogurt: Oklahoma City fro-yo smackdown, part five [closed]

Fruiti Yogurt is located at 4309 N. Western Avenue in Oklahoma City (map). They are open 7 days a week from 10:30am to 10:30pm (open until 11pm on Friday and Saturday). Call them at 405.601.7777.
Please note: Fruiti Yogurt is no longer in business.
As the searing 105 degree heat beat down on me this week, I thought to myself it must be time to review some more fro-yo. Perhaps you recall our fro-yo smackdown series from last year. If not, you can use these links to visit previous posts in the series:

- Part one covering Passionberri
- Part two covering Pink Swirls
- Part three covering Orange Tree (which has since been replaced by Peachwave)
- Part four covering Lushberries
And now, we bring you part five, covering the closest fro-yo place to my own home, Fruiti Yogurt.
Fruiti Yogurt makes its home in the very happening Western Avenue shopping, dining and entertainment district. Honestly, it’s a great place to locate a yogurt place with so many restaurants and shops generating quite a bit of foot traffic.
Like the other places in this district, Fruiti Yogurt takes up residence in an older, historical building. This gives is a less pristine and polished feel than the other fro-yo places we’ve reviewed which mostly exist in very new, suburban strip malls. I like the vibe of these older structures, but the times I’ve been, there’s been an unusual smell in the room. The air conditioning also doesn’t run as cold as you would expect for a place that serves frozen dessert. Neither of these issues have driven me away, but they are definitely noticeable.
Other than the location, Fruiti yogurt offers pretty much the same thing as the other fro-yo shops. They have self-serve yogurt and toppings at $0.36/oz. They are open late. They have free wifi. They have colorful and modern furnishings. You know, after visiting many of these places, you begin to realize they are all pretty similar and all pretty good. There are really only minor difference that we can compare.
One of those differences is that Fruiti yogurt has less flavors and topping choices than some of the other places. Now, don’t get me wrong, they have plenty of choices (personally, I always just get original tart with fresh blueberries and strawberries, which they have, so I’m good). But if you’re looking for the ultimate variety, Lushberries, Pink Swirls, and Peachwave all have a few more choices I believe.
However, there is one area in which Fruiti yogurt hugely outperforms the other shops, and that is in the sizing and variety of their cups. I have often complained that every other fro-yo place offers only huge, and I mean HUGE cups. Naturally, there’s a reason for this — to encourage you to buy more yogurt — but it can be a bit ridiculous when the cups are so big. If you don’t want that much yogurt (and nobody really needs to fill up those cups) it’s really awkward. Fruiti Yogurt is the only place I’ve found that offers reasonably-sized cups, with several smaller cups available, even going to the point of providing a kid-sized cup. This, in and of itself, puts Fruiti Yogurt up high on my list.
As for the quality of the yogurt. The first time I tried it I didn’t think it was as creamy as some of the others, but on recent visits, I think it has improved. I think they may have even switched to a new kind of yogurt, which they bill as even healthier than the norm. They have signs up promoting the “Only 8″ brand of yogurt they use. Whatever they are serving, I have grown fond of it. I find the original tart to be very creamy and very tart and that’s really what I’m looking for.
A few other unique things — they have smoothies ($2.75), but not the kind you make with yogurt, like at Pink Swirls. These are made with fruit and milk and ice. They also have shaved ice ($4.62). Interestingly, they also have chicken potstickers ($2.99). At least it says so on their monitor. I’ve never had these but since this place is owned by the folks from Pho Lien Hoa, I can imagine they would be good.
With fro-yo places popping up all over town, you’re likely going to frequent the one that’s closest to you. If you happen to live in central OKC or find yourself in that area needing a cool, healthy snack, Fruiti Yogurt definitely provides a worthy option. Plus, you’ll be able to select a cup that suits your appetite even if you’re not hungry enough to down a gallon.

We live close by Fruiti Yogurt and like it. We like the blueberry and white chocolate fro yo best. Friendly, and we also like the small size cups offered here.

I have passed by this joint many of times, but always too full to get dessert here. I eat way too much at Tokyo. I’m glad to know this place was good though =D Thanks for the review~

I’ve been to this place several times. Never noticed the weird smell or AC problem you’ve described though.
I really like the Original Tart and the Pomegranite flavors, but I tend to choose from the Only 8 flavors for caloric reasons. This place will let you try all the flavors before you make your cup, and they seem to rotate the flavors pretty often. The decor is really cool and the staff is super-friendly.

Maybe the first time you didn’t think it was so creamy because you tried an Only 8 flavor? Those are lactose free (NOT dairy-free vegan), which makes them less creamy and more prone to ice-crystal texture.
I’ve been a few times, and haven’t noticed a weird smell. Overall, I’ve had good experiences, except the chocolate sauce… very nasty, not sure if it went bad, or what.

SD, maybe so, but I don’t think so. I’ve always had the original tart each time I’ve gone. Whatever the case, the times I’ve gone recently it’s all been very good in flavor and texture so maybe my first experience was just on an off day. I’m really liking this place as of late and since it’s the closest to my house, I’m becoming a regular.

I’m going to try and find a Fro-Yo close to The Cow in Edmond….any thoughts?

Andy, not sure where in Edmond “The Cow” is but one of OKC’s best fro-yo places is Lushberries which is on S. Broadway so maybe that’s not too far away.

Turns out Lushberries is right around the corner from The Cow….will hit that today for sure!!

I am looking for sugar free yogurt choices. Do any of the yogurt places here in OKC offer that?

Ann, Fruiti Yogurt offers certain flavors that are “Only 8″ brand frozen yogurts. According to their website, these are sweetened with fructose. You can find out more here: http://only8frozenyogurt.com/

The inside smells *horrible* thanks to the bar next door, but it’s in a perfect location for walking around outside on a weekend night. The yogurt is good, toppings are expansive, and the small cups are a great offering. Like the reviewer points out, people are going to frequent the frozen yogurt place closest to them, and this one is closest to me. I like it and my punch card will be well used.
Please tell us what you think.
