Tonight was our 4th visit to Jo’s. Considering we live in Yukon and drove all the way to “the City” just for pizza, that in itself says something. The first time we ate here on a whim, and were truly impressed. This place brings back memories of my childhood and eating at Shakey’s Pizza in Norman with the family. No buffet, no arcade, just really good food and great service.
We discovered their salad on our first visit. The kids were starving, and everyone was cranky and ready to eat. Let me just say that the large salad is plenty to feed 2 adults, 2 teenagers, and 1 always-hungry 9 year-old boy. I think we even had leftovers. The salad is a nice spring greens mix, topped with all sorts of yummy items: fresh grated mozzerella, black olives, canadian bacon, tomatoes, and cheese bread wedges. The ranch dressing is homemade and addictive. If you’re up for something different, try the Pa’s Garlic dressing. Also homemade, it tastes a little like thousand island (which I don’t like) only 1000 times better. The price is very reasonable for the portion size, too.
The pizza crust is unbelievable. Each time we’ve been here the crust has been a flaky, almost pie-crust texture that I just can’t get enough of. I’m normally a deep-dish pizza person, but I haven’t even wanted to try it. We’ve tried the Luau, the Greek, the Sooner, the Veggie, and tonight the Italian. The Italian is the only one I haven’t really cared for. It was entirely too spicy for my taste. Having said that, they aren’t skimpy with their pizza toppings, and we don’t walk out hungry. I just wish they would put a little more sauce on the pies. I think I’m going to ask them for extra sauce next time we go.
Although the price is higher than CiCi’s or Pizza Pizza, you get what you pay for. They do have e-mail and text coupons you can sign up for, which have been pretty good. We got a free salad for our Anniversary month (Thanks, Jo’s!).
I also want to mention the atmosphere. Each time we’ve been in, they’ve had a Christian music station softly playing in the background, which I really like. They will even bring the kids a dough ball to play with while they are waiting on the pizza. My son loved that.
Give it a try!

I ate here 2 days ago…normally I absolutely love the service and the incredible pizza! There was only one other table occupied in the restaurant, so we thought we had good timing. They immediately took our order for the lunch special and brought out drinks. 35 minutes later, we finally got our individual pizzas, and never received our salads. The restaurant had filled up quite a lot by then. While they ended up not charging us for the salads, the pizzas were delicious, and the waitress was nice. It won’t stop me from going there, but in the future, I will be more “persistent” about getting my order.
